THE NIGHT WRECKERS
Main
Hi there! We are THE NIGHT WRECKERS, a 5 piece band from Oxford, U.K. We started as a 50’s/60’s ru0026#038;b band, but have now moved on and play a cross section of popular music, taking in all forms of blues, rock, funk, jazz, latin and Americana This is a holding page – BUT SOON you will see a lot more of and about us!!
About Us
Back in the beginning of time 2 schoolfriends, Deke Roberts and Barry King were members of a band ‘THE NITE WRECKERS’ Later on they put together a new outfit ‘THE UNNAMED’, which became influential to a lot of Oxford musicians. Along the way Barry departed and Deke put together a new band ‘MOTHERLY LOVE’, their manager also had some involvement with a psychedelic band ‘DIESEL DOUGHNUT’ which included Nick Clack When ‘MOTHERLY LOVE’ split up, Nick was alerted to Deke’s availability, so set about adding him to the ‘DIESEL DOUGHNUT’ lineup, (Deke always felt it was one of the best sales pitches he had encountered!!) With Deke in the band the musical direction changed both drastically and quickly, leading to the original guitarist quitting, citing musical differences. At this point a new guitarist, Richard Witoszynski joined the band With Richard on board, the band flexed its musical muscles but found a 4 piece lineup limiting, so set about adding another guitarist, a second drummer and a second singer. With this lineup, Deke was able to start introducing his own material. It was also felt that a new name would assist the total change in musical direction, so ‘BOSS RADIO’ wasu0026hellip;

DEKE ROBERTS – was born at a very early age and even as a child he could be found with his little ukulele in his hand. His first musical encounter, when still a teenager was with a band ‘The Nite Wreckers’, he was shortly followed by a certain Barry King Deke grew up listening to Latin American, African and Blues and this was to show up in ‘The Nite Wreckers’ choice of music. The band found it difficult to get gigs, due to what was considered a dangerous name, so they became ‘The Unnamed’ and then ‘Motherly Love’ until the band finally split up After this Deke joined ‘Diesel Doughnut’, a psychedelic band with Nick Clack and they were joined shortly after by Richard Witoszynski. They were to be part of a more adventurous outfit ‘Boss Radio’. Deke has had several versions of ‘Boss Radio’ and subsidised this by playing in show bands After this he stopped playing, so that he could care for his elderly mother. When his mother passed away, Deke started attending some Oxford Jam sessions, which led to meeting Nick, Barry u0026#038; Richard again – hence ‘THE NIGHT WRECKERS’ BARRY KING – Teenage pair, Barry andu0026hellip;
